Spontaneous weekends are so much fun! Especially when they involve a Friday off of work, a peaceful 4 hour road trip to Mema's house, a deluxe spa pedicure at the local Walmart (my usual "tip to toe" is no match), Brookshire's fried chicken lunch and dinner, Mema's mashed potatoes, torrential rain, sister bonding, a little "training from the "queen" on "spur of the moment Dillard's shoe and handbag sales :)", "Old" Papa's smile, and last but not least..Efurds..a little history I was able to dig up just now for those who are curious.
Proud Of East Texas: Efurd Peach Farm
For three generations, the Efurd family has welcomed visitors to their peach farm near Pittsburg with friendly hellos and free tastes of sweet, succulent peaches. It's what many describe as an East Texas happening.
John Efurd planted his first 500 peach trees in 1952 and although the peaches froze three straight years in '78,'79, and '80, the Efurds persevered and now their orchards of 15,0000 produce from May through August.
At the age of 79, John Efurd says he and wife Sandra have pretty much turned the running of the peach farm over to their son Greg and his wife Amy. However, they're at the peach shed every day working right along side their son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren, selling peaches and local produce and enjoying, along with their customers, their special homemade peach and strawberry ice cream. Efurd Peach Farm is located on State Highway 271 between Pittsburg and Gilmer.

Apparently this is a "must" when up in the booming East Texas area! This was my first time, and I concur! :) I didn't bring any peaches home, because we ate them all, I did however bring back some fig preserves for my sweet husband.. Thanks Sarah!! Mema made homemade peach cobbler as well!! I think that pretty much sums up my fantastic weekend! Here are a few more pictures of everyone else enjoying it too!

Have a great week ya'll!
